Musicians who have suffered from mental health issues. Ariana Grande.
Written by admin on January 31, 2019
Ariana Grande is arguably one of the most popular recording artists in the world right now. With her fifth album due to be released in the near future (February 2019), she is the first artist to have the lead single from all five albums enter the top ten of the US chart.
In 2015, Grande wrote an essay that attacked the double standard and misogyny in the focus of the press on female musicians’ relationships and sex lives, instead of their value as individuals. Grande noted that she had more to talk about concerning her music and accomplishments, rather than her romantic relationships.
In 2016, E! writer Kendall Fisher called her “a feminist hero” (1) in an essay examining Grande’s feminist statements. The same year, Grande was listed among Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world.
This young, extremely popular artist who is loved by millions, had a sudden, unexpected, and life changing event in 2017. In an act of terrorism, a suicide bomber detonated a bomb at the end of Grande’s concert in Manchester, killing twenty three people and injuring over five times more. This barbaric act saw her suffer from PTSD and increased her anxiety. This all added to her mental health issues, which she had been sharing with professionals for a decade, since her parents had divorced.
